It is known that increased temperatures accelerates the rate of degradation of polymers and causes desiccation cracking of clay. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) diffuses though a perfectly intact geomembrane, thus polluting the groundwater regime.

This innovative technology was developed to overcome all three these challenges or any combination thereof depending on the design requirements. The principle behind the Enhanced Barrier System is to pass a fluid (liquid, gas or a combination of the two) under a negative pressure through a pervious zone adjacent to the barrier to achieve any one or combination of the following:

• Removal of diffused Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs);

• Geosynhtetic temperature control; and

• Post loading hydration of GCLs.
